Whether you have kiddos getting ready to go back to school and you’re thinking about elevating their study space or you’ve got a new job and are wanting to start off on the best foot possible, having the top tools at your disposal can make all the difference. After setting up several work spaces for clients and in my own home, there are a few key items that are always on my must have list. And the best part about this list… you can start small with trying out one or two of these ideas and building from there!
7 Must-Have Accessories for Creating the Ultimate Productive Work Space
A Desk Blotter
I fought this one for a looooonnnnnnggggg time. It seemed a bit fussy and unnecessary. That is until I invested in my dream desk. Then proceeded to get sharpie on it. And then destroy the paint finish trying to clean off the sharpie.

And now I’m a total convert to the desk blotter. It takes the brunt of all that I put my desk through and looks good doing it.
MY FAV OPTIONS: FLAP DESK BLOTTER (SHOWN) | LEATHER DESK BLOTTER IN MUTLI COLORS | DESK BLOTTER WITH GRAPH PAPER
Monitor Stand & Storage
If you have a desk that doesn’t have a ton of storage, a monitor stand with storage is a fantastic option. Not only does it give you the ergonomics of an elevated monitor, but all those small office supplies are corralled into one easily accessible spot. This is the one I brought in as a showroom manager and it was a game changer.
Speaking of corralling items…
Decorative Boxes
Beautiful boxes to organize all of your projects, papers, and office supplies are a must! They keep everything in one easily accessible place. Pull out the box to work on your project and then stash it away at the end of the day. Your work area will always look neat and you’re never left thinking, “I know I have that things around here somewhere….”
MY FAV OPTIONS: 1940’S BOXES (SHOWN) | SHAGREEN BOXES | PEARL SHELL BOXES
Vintage Ashtray or Bowl
A vintage ashtray or decorative bowl is a great “catch-all” to those random items that find their way into your office. In an ideal world we’d all be so organized that there would be no such thing, but if you’re like me and find yourself with the odd business card that needs a home until you can address it, this is a cute little landing spot.
MY FAV OPTIONS: MACK VINTAGE ASHTRAY (SHOWN) | AMBER CRYSTAL GLASS ASHTRAY | ANTIQUE TRINKET BOWL
Desk Lamp
Most rooms don’t have enough good lighting. Adding a desk lamp to your space is a solid way to bring in some color, texture, or character, while providing more lighting. And who doesn’t want to be able to see while you work?
MY FAV OPTIONS: BLEACHED WOOD LAMP (SHOWN) | MUSHROOM LAMP | MID-CENTURY CERAMIC LAMP
Cable Management
For the love of all things holy, get your cables in order!
There is nothing that sucks the potential out of a space like seeing a mess of cables when you walk into it. There are a ton of helpful options on the market and will make a huge difference in how your room feels if the cables are bundled and tucked out of sight. This is a great basic kit and you can find them in white too.
Character with Some Weight
If you want your study area or office to be a space that motivates and inspires, then you want to infuse it with some character. Consider paperweights, bookends, and/or small sculpture for a bookshelf as ideas for bringing in character and style to your work space.
MY FAV OPTIONS: GRANT BOOKENDS | DECORATIVE CHESS BOOKENDS | THINKER BOOKENDS
Having the right accessories in your home office or study space is essential for boosting productivity and inspiring creativity. I love this topic because it doesn’t take a huge investment or remodel to achieve immediate results.
